How we estimate
- 1 kW of panels makes about 120 units a month in Karnataka.
- Each kW needs about 10 m² (108 sq ft) of shade-free roof.
- Installation costs about ₹55,000–₹65,000 per kW.
- A bill is turned into units at about ₹7 a unit for homes and ₹9 for businesses.
- Homes get ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, up to ₹78,000. Businesses get none.
- Savings count only the power you use yourself, at today's rates.
The PM Surya Ghar subsidy
The PM Surya Ghar subsidy
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India's scheme for rooftop solar on homes. The subsidy is paid into your bank account after the system is installed and inspected.
Businesses don't get this subsidy, but they often save more, because they pay more for each unit.
