Stay safe at work

Safety gear, lifting, sharp materials, batteries and machines: the basics that prevent injuries.

Safety6 steps

Steps

  1. Step 1 of 6

    Wear your safety gear (PPE)

Gloves and closed shoes, always. Add a mask for dusty loads and goggles when cutting or crushing.

  2. Step 2 of 6

    Lift with your legs

Bend your knees, keep the load close and don't twist. Get help with anything over 25 kg.

  3. Step 3 of 6

    Watch for sharp edges

Glass, tin and wire cut easily. Carry glass in a box, never loose in a sack.

  4. Step 4 of 6

    Keep batteries and e-waste apart

Store them dry and cool, away from other materials. Never burn wires or break open batteries or screens.

  5. Step 5 of 6

Switch off before you clear a jam

Stop a baler or shredder and unplug it first. Never reach in while it runs.

  6. Step 6 of 6

    Keep first aid close

Keep a first-aid kit and clean water on site. For a deep cut or a burn, get medical help at once.
